LINCOLN–(KFOR July 19)–Battle of the Badges is underway, where Lincoln Fire and Rescue is looking to 3-peat as the title holder for getting more support in blood donations to the Nebraska Community Blood Bank.

Fire Chief Micheal Despain joined Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister and others involved on Friday morning to kick start the third annual blood drive that helps raise awareness on the importance of donating blood.  It challenges first responders to help bring the community together in a series of blood drives from July 19 through August 31.

During registration, blood donors can fill out a Count Me In Card and show if they are donating blood to LPD or LFR.  The department with the most donations wins the competition, gets a traveling trophy and bragging rights, while the losing department will be on a picnic shelter doing clean-up duty for Lincoln Parks and Recreation.
