(KFOR NEWS  August 11, 2019)  Nebraska Community Blood Bank’s Battle of the Badges is an annual competition between teams of first responders to raise awareness of the importance of donating blood. The event challenges first responders to bring together the community, friends, and family members in a friendly competition to save and sustain lives through blood donation.

The 2019 Battle of the Badges kicks off July 19 and runs through August 31. Show your support for the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) and Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) by stepping up to donate blood at an upcoming Battle of the Badges blood drive:

Help save lives, get rewarded
Donate at a Battle of the Badges blood drive and you will receive a coupon for a free Runza or burger from Runza, and a coupon for a free pint (or soda) from Empyrean, redeemable at Lazlo’sor Fireworks. Plus, all presenting donors are eligible for NCBB’s other monthly promotions.

Make your donation count
If you’re unable to make it to an official Battle of Badges blood drive but still want to show your support for your department of choice, donate blood at a donor center or blood drive through August 31. At registration, fill out a Count Me In Card and indicate if you are donating blood for LPD or LFR. The department with the most donations wins the competition.

The winning team will walk away with the Battle of the Badges traveling trophy and bragging rights, while members of the losing team will be on picnic shelter clean-up duty with Lincoln Parks and Recreation. The winning team will be announced early in September.

Regardless of your allegiance, the real winner will be the many lives sustained through your generosity as a volunteer blood donor. Hear from NCBB volunteer Logan Fitch whose father is a LPD officer and needed several units of blood when he suffered a spontaneous splenic artery rupture.

See who won 2018’s Battle of the Badges!
