Blood Donations Still Being Accepted Toward 12 Days of Hope

If you didn’t make it out in person Thursday to donate to the 12 Days of Hope Blood Drive, you can still make blood donations through the Nebraska Community Blood Bank by Sept. 30.

The drive was to honor the late Lincoln Police Investigator Mario Herrera, who received blood transfusions to live another 12 days, after he was shot in the line of duty in August 2020.  It also honored those who died in the line of duty, including those in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

LPD Sgt. Ryan Witzel, who remembered the amount of people donating blood after Investigator Herrera was wounded, donated at the blood drive on Thursday outside of the Hall of Justice.

“Community cares about us and we care about them,” Sgt. Witzel said.  “But it was nice to see everybody come forward with that and give at that time.”

Details on how you can still donate toward the 12 Days of Hope blood drive can be found at this link below.
