Breakthrough Made At UNMC Regarding A Cure For HIV

OMAHA–(News Release July 2)–Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have taken a major step towards curing HIV. In cooperation with a team at Temple University, researchers say they have eliminated — for the first time — replication of the virus responsible for AIDS. Researchers say when the HIV cure is complete, patients would replace taking pills for the rest of their lives with two separate injections. With 40,000 new HIV infections each year in the United States, the development has attracted the attention of researchers around the world.
