Cockfighting Raid Near Bellevue

(KFOR NEWS  October 2, 2019)  (AP) – Authorities in eastern Nebraska say the police raid of a suspected cockfighting ring has led to the seizure of more than 160 birds and five arrests.  The Omaha World-Herald reports that the raid, conducted by police and the Nebraska Humane Society, occurred Friday at a Bellevue property.  Officers seized 114 roosters/gamecocks and 49 hens and chicks.  Humane Society spokeswoman Pam Wiese says two of the birds had to be euthanized.  The surviving birds are being cared for by the Humane Society. Four dogs, four kittens and a goat also were seized from the property because of allegations of animal neglect.  The five people arrested face felony cockfighting charges.
