Capital Jazz Society proudly presents a livestream event featuring The Greg Simon Septet. This event will be livestreamed from Vine Congregational UCC through the Capital Jazz Society’s Facebook page on on Friday, April 16th, starting at 8:00pm. Livestreaming events allows the Capital Jazz Society to present live jazz while also keeping musicians and the audience safe during the pandemic. Greg Simon (b. 1985) is a composer and jazz trumpeter hailing from California, by way of Oregon and Colorado. Greg’s music has been called “gregarious [and] muscular” (Palm Beach Arts) and has been praised for its “high energy, lovely solo turns, and upbeat personality” (Fanfare Magazine). Drawing its inspiration from jazz, funk, Balinese gamelan, Chilean Nueva Canción, and street art (among many other sources), his music explores heritage and intersection, aiming to create a common space between the myriad communities it reflects. Greg is currently Assistant Professor of Composition and Jazz Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he also directs the Flyover New Music Series. He is also part of the composition artist-faculty at the Brevard Music Center.
