Firefighter Association Giving Away Coats

The Lincoln Fire Fighters Association Local #644 and Operation Warm http://www.operationwarm.org are launching their 2019 Coat Program. For the 6th year, the Lincoln Fire Fighters Association is raising money to buy new winter coats for children in need. Since 2014, the Lincoln Fire Fighters have helped over 4,000 Lincoln elementary school children by providing new, warm winter coats.

“Lincoln’s fire fighters see the need for this program on a daily basis,” said Jason Love, program coordinator for the Lincoln Fire Fighters. “We have a great partnership with the schools and they help us identify the areas where we can do the most good.”

The schools are selected based on the percentage of student enrollment in the free and reduced lunch program. In order to qualify for a free lunch, a family of 4 must make less than $33,475. In 2019, the Lincoln Fire Fighters Association is donating coats to the students at Clinton (29th and Holdrege, 94% enrolled), Elliott (25th and N, 86% enrolled) and Lakeview (300 Capitol Beach Blvd, 75% enrolled) Elementary Schools. Over 1300 coats will be donated.

“It’s pretty amazing to see how excited the children are to receive a new coat.” Love stated, “We relish this opportunity to serve our community and are so proud of the local support we receive in order to make this program a reality each year.”

The Lincoln Fire Fighters invites members of the public to join them at one or all of their coat handout events:

Wednesday, October 16 at 10:15 AM at Lakeview Elementary – 300 Capitol Beach Blvd, Monday, October 28 at 9:45 AM at Clinton Elementary – 1520 N 29^th St, and Wednesday, October 30th at 9:00 AM at Elliott Elementary -225 S 25^th St.
