First General Election Voter Registration Deadline Approaching

LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 12) Nebraska’s first voter registration deadline for the general election is Friday, October 18, and is the final day that Nebraskans can register to vote:

  • Online (by midnight),
  • By mail (postmarked Oct. 18),
  • By secure drop box,
  • At a state agency (DMV, DHHS, Dept. of Ed.),
  • Via deputy registrar or
  • Via personal agent.

“Eligible Nebraskans should ensure that their voter registration is up to date or submit a voter registration application if they aren’t registered to vote in Nebraska,” Secretary of State Bob Evnen said. “County election offices are efficiently and carefully reviewing, verifying and processing all voter registrations that they receive.”

To avoid submitting duplicate voter registration applications, Nebraskans are encouraged to first check their registration information on the VoterCheck website. VoterCheck also allows registered Nebraska voters to find their polling place, track their early voting ballot and view their sample ballot. Nebraskans can register to vote online here.

Nebraskans who are already registered to vote should also take this opportunity to verify that their voter registration information is up to date on VoterCheck. Nebraskans can also contact their county election office to verify that their voter registration is current. Registered voters must update their voter registration records if they recently changed their name or moved.

The final general election voter registration deadline is Friday, October 25. That is the last day that Nebraskans can register to vote in person at their respective county election office. Offices will be open until 6 p.m. local time.
