FOOTBALL: Andreasen’s TDs Spark Pius X Rally In Win Over Norfolk

LINCOLN–(KLMS Oct. 18)–Three turnovers in the first half seemed to be an after thought, once Jon Andreasen made Norfolk defenders pay.

The Lincoln Pius X senior running back scored two touchdowns in a second half rally to beat the Panthers 21-14 Friday night before a crowd of more than 1,500 at Aldrich Field on Senior Night for the Thunderbolts.

About 17 seconds after Norfolk extended their lead 14-0 in the third quarter on an 8-yard scoring run from Brayton Splater, Andreasen broke free on the first play from scrimmage and ran for an 80-yard touchdown to get Pius X on the scoreboard with 4:44 in the 3rd quarter.

Blake Vodicka returned a Norfolk punt 30 yards toward the end of the third quarter, then he caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Finder with 11:54 left to tie the game at 14.

Norfolk (3-5) converted on a couple of first downs, but the drive stalled when Pius X linebacker Justin Leggott sacked Panther quarterback Jace Monday for a loss of yards to force a punt.

On the first play from scrimmage, Andreasen ran around left side and set sailed for a 69-yard touchdown run to give the Thunderbolts, who improved to 3-5, a lead for good with 8:25 remaining.

Norfolk managed to burn up their time outs and tried to go for a fake punt that was stopped on fourth down.  Pius X later stopped Norfolk on drive that stalled on a 4th and 2 situation from the Bolts’ 20-yard line, when a pass from Monday to receiver Gage Dohren with 8. 1 seconds left.

Norfolk led 7-0 at halftime, once Monday scored on a 4th and short situation deep in Pius X territory.
