FOOTBALL: East’s Defense Helps In Victory Over Southwest

LINCOLN–(KFOR Sept. 19)–Lincoln East picked up their third win of the football season on Thursday night, coming up with a stop late in the game and added a late score to earn a 21-10 victory over Lincoln Southwest at Seacrest Field.

The Spartans (3-1) forced a fumble inside their own 20-yard line and with 2:26 left in the game, capped off the victory with a seven-yard touchdown pass on 4th and goal from quarterback Ryan Manning to receiver Mikhale Ford.

East trailed early in the game, when Southwest quarterback Brockston Teply found Luke Mitchell for a 62-yard pick up and that eventually set up a 25-yard field goal from Emmett Sanchez to put the Silver Hawks on the board first, 3-0.

East regrouped in the second quarter, when Manning found Raheem Popoola on an 18-yard touchdown pass to give the Spartans a 7-3 lead with just over 5 minutes remaining.  Popoola came through on defense in the third quarter, when he picked a Teply pass to inside the Southwest 20-yard line.  That soon set up an 18-yard touchdown toss on a swing pass from Manning to Colton Tucker and the Spartans increased their lead to 14-3.

On the ensuing drive for Southwest, the Silver Hawks struck back as Teply found Griffin Semrad on an 81-yard touchdown pass that narrowed the deficit to 14-10.
