FOOTBALL: Omaha South Outshines Northeast

LINCOLN–(KLMS Oct.4)–Off to one of their best starts in recent memory, the Omaha South football team took control early and managed to hold off  a comeback from Lincoln Northeast Friday night.

The Packers earned a 28-21 victory over the Rockets at Beechner Field, which was heard on ESPN Lincoln FM101.5/1480AM.

South’s dual threat of Mikey Silva and Kolby Fox combined for 276 yards rushing, with Silva scoring twice and Fox adding touchdown run late in the first half.

Northeast (1-5) cut into South’s lead when Jeremiah Collier scored a touchdown following a fumble.  The junior quarterback then found Dawson Wright on a 13-yard pass for a score and the Rockets trailed 22-14 in the third quarter.

Silva extended South’s lead with his second touchdown and a failed two-point conversion.  Northeast regrouped and Xavier Gary ran for a 12-yard touchdown to trim the Packer lead 28-21.

South (4-2) put the game away late in the ball game, when Silva picked up a first down on a 4th-and-8 situation and the Packers held on for the win.
