Former LSW Head Softball Coach, Nebraska Assistant Mark Watt has Passed Away

LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 7)–Mark Watt, who coached Lincoln Southwest to four Class A State Championships in softball and later became a volunteer assistant coach for the Nebraska softball team, passed away on Wednesday after a battle with cancer.

A post on “X” from the Lincoln Southwest softball team late Wednesday night confirmed of Watt’s passing.  He coached the Silver Hawks softball team from 2002 to 2021, when he retired, and spent eight seasons as a varsity assistant and JV coach for the Southwest baseball team.  Watt also was honored as the Ralph Beechner Coach of the Year from the KFOR Sportscasters Club.  He later joined Rhonda Revelle’s staff at Nebraska as a volunteer assistant.

Before teaching and coaching at Southwest, Watt was the head softball coach at Lincoln Southeast from 1996 to 2002, where he coached the Knights to a state runner-up finish in 2001.  He also helped coach boys and girls basketball at Southeast.

Watt, a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was a University of Michigan graduate and earned his masters in Health and wellness education from Springfield College.
