HUSKER FOOTBALL: Nebraska Gearing Up for Challenge from Rutgers
It’s homecoming and hall of fame week for the Nebraska Football team and the Huskers welcome in Rutgers to Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The matchup will feature the Scarlet Knights coming into Lincoln with an undefeated mark under head coach Greg Schiano.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule on Monday said Schiano has won at a high level before and came back to Rutgers, where he’s winning at a high level.
“He’s a great football coach zero point blank. He’s a great builder. He’s elevated that entire university. I have the utmost respect for him. When he speaks, I listen. I just have a lot of respect for him,” Rhule said.
When it comes to Nebraska’s special teams, Rhule said Rutgers will come after them, especially on special teams.
“We have good players. They have to play well and that’s really been my message to the team is you can’t all of the sudden change who you are. If you’re going to be fast be fast. If you’re going to be tough be tough and it will be against a really good Rutgers team,” Rhule added.
The question came up Monday about the status of offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua with the team, after he was suspended last week but reinstated this week.
“I wouldn’t start him,” Rhule said. “I’m working with him to make him the best that he can be.”
Nebraska and Rutgers kickoff Saturday afternoon at 3pm on FS1.
