Lincoln East High School named Joe Schlegelmilch and Bill Spangler as co-head boys golf coaches Tuesday.

“Joe and Bill have a wealth of coaching experience and a complete understanding of the value of educational-based athletics that East High strives to promote,” said Spartan Athletics/Activities Director Zach Limbach.  “They both have the skills needed to enhance the ongoing development and overall improvement of our traditionally strong program.”

Schlegelmilch is a Spartan alum, graduating in 1991. He has coached many different sports within Lincoln Public Schools since 1999, and is currently a counselor at East.

“The boys golf program has seen great success both on the golf course and in the classroom over the years, and I look forward to continuing these traditions as coach,” said Schlegelmilch.

Spangler is a life-long Lincoln resident and a former member of the Husker Golf Team. His coaching career began at UNL in the mid 1990’s when he was hired as the assistant women’s golf coach. In 2001, Spangler was selected as the Husker men’s golf coach, a position he held until 2018.

Spangler commented, “It is with great pride that I will join the Spartan family and be able to contribute to its already fabulous reputation.”
