Lincoln Man Arrested for DUI and Hit and Run Early Monday
LINCOLN–(KFOR Sept. 16)–Lincoln Police arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of his first offense DUI, after a hit and run case from early Monday morning in the area of NW 55th Street and West St. Paul Avenue.
Captain Todd Kocian says a woman inside her home heard a loud noise outside, then looked at video from her security system and saw a truck hit two other vehicles and left the scene heading south. Several minutes later, LPD was called to the BNSF railyard on West “O” Street about a truck that drove on railroad tracks and got stuck. Arriving officers found the 2017 Ford F250 pickup with heavy damage, two tires had come off the rims, and contacted 33-year-old Zachary Scully of Lincoln as the driver.
BNSF employees noted damage to the tracks from the truck driving on them however were unable to provide a damage amount at this time. The disabled truck also blocked a train line causing two of their tracks to be shut down which delayed their normal operations. Scully showed signs of impairment and a breath test show his blood-alcohol content at .137.
Scully was arrested for first offense DUI and resisting arrest. He was also cited and released for obstructing a police officer, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, leaving the scene and reckless driving.
The two vehicles damaged in the hit and run were a 2024 Ford Escape and a 2024 Infinity G35. Captain Kocian says the Escape was totaled while the Infinity suffered about $6,000 damage.
