During a 3pm news conference Monday afternoon, Lincoln Police Chief, Teresa Ewins, would not identify the two people killed in a white Toyota, nor would she identify the lone occupant of the other car, an 18 year old male driver from Omaha in a black Ford Taurus.
The two females in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Taurus was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Chief Ewins said the Taurus was headed west on O Street when it struck the Toyota, which was facing east on O Street making a left turn to head north on 52nd Street.
As a result of the collision, the Taurus rolled, pinning two pedestrians on the sidewalk on the north side of O Street. Bystanders rolled the vehicle over to help the victims. 20 injured bystanders were treated at hospitals. One victim is in critical but stable condition. Other conditions are described as in non-life threatening.
Chief Ewins said it was too early to say whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Chief Ewins is asking anyone who may have been shooting video or still photos on their phones to please contact LPD’s non-emergency number at (402) 441-6000 or CrimeStoppers at (402) 475-3600.
