All area school districts have either closed for the day or delayed start times.

Lincoln Public Schools, along with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Southeast Community College and other smaller college and private schools are closed because of the winter weather forecast.

Around 20 crews have been patrolling city streets since midnight Tuesday, applying granular salt, pre-wet with brine ahead of freezing drizzle and sleet expected to move into the area overnight.

The National Weather Service has extended a Winter Weather Advisory until 9pm Tuesday. The system is expected to bring ice, then up to 3″ of snow. Blowing snow will be a problem, too, with wind gusts as high as 35 mph.

Lincoln Police tell KFOR News commuters should just slow down, leave plenty early, and increase stopping and following distance.
