LINCOLN-(KFOR Oct. 4)-Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird has accepted an appointment from the President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) to serve as Vice Chair of the Mayors and Metro Universities Task Force. As Vice Chair, she is attending the 2019 USCM Fall Leadership Meeting in Rochester Hills and Detroit Michigan October 4 and 5.

“Lincoln is a city that has energetic partnerships with our universities and colleges,” said Gaylor Baird. “This is an opportunity to heighten Lincoln’s profile on the national stage, share information about how Lincoln is moving forward, and bring home new ideas from across the country that will strengthen our partnerships.”

As Vice Chair of the Task Force, Gaylor Baird will help develop an agenda that is proactive, strategic, and informed. The Task Force will focus on how to partner with institutions of higher learning and research to advance community and economic development.

Mayor Bryan Barnett of Rochester Hills is the current President of the USCM, which was organized in 1932 as the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. As part of the USCM, Mayors work together to develop and advocate for national urban policy.
