According to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, 22 people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways during the month of June, 2019.

  • These 22 fatalities occurred in 18 crashes.
  • Six of the 20 vehicle occupants killed were not wearing safety belts.
  • There was one fatality on the interstate, eleven fatalities on other highways, and ten fatalities on local roads.
  • Seventeen of the fatalities were in rural locations.
  • Four of the fatalities were motorcyclists.
  • Two of the fatalities were pedestrians.

In comparison to June 2018, the number of fatalities increased by ten (12 fatalities during June 2018).

NDOT has also compared the number of fatalities incurred in the first six months of 2019 (108) to the average number of fatalities incurred in the first six months of the previous four years, and the number has increased by 3.7% (avg. 104).

Only 32 of the 90 vehicle occupants killed during 2019 were using safety belts.
