Nebraska Task Force One Crews in the Carolinas to Help with Recovery from Hurricane Helene

LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 1)–More than 40 members of Nebraska’s Urban Search and Rescue Team, Task Force One, are in areas of  North Carolina and South Carolina, after conducting searches in Florida this past weekend following Hurricane Helene.

LFR Battalion Chief Brad Thavenet on Tuesday said task force members are doing search and rescue missions each day. The challenge has been communications, where satellite phones have been one primary source. Thavenet this is comparable in scale to previous deployments for Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and severe flooding in the Boulder, Colorado, area in 2013.

No return date has been set for the task force to go back to Nebraska.
