Nebraska's Natural Gas Cold Weather Rule To Take Effect In November

Beginning November 1st, the Nebraska Public Service Commission’s cold weather rule will take effect. The rule allows those who have not paid their natural gas bills more time to pay them from November 1st to March 31 st. The NPSC implemented the rule in 2003 when it was given regulatory authority.

For natural gas companies such as Black Hills Energy and NorthWestern Energy, the rule means that they can not shut off service to customers without allowing 30 days to pay beyond the actual due date.

Commission chair Mary Ridder said,”The cold weather rule is designed to help customers at a time when natural gas bills are often at the highest.” Customers finding it difficult to pay gas bills should contact the company to arrange payment.
