A judge has found a University of Nebraska-Lincoln sociology professor not guilty of vandalism after she was accused of taping a sign reading “Deb love rapists” to Nebraska Republican U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer’s office in Lincoln.

The Lancaster County judge declared Patricia Wonch Hill not guilty Friday of the misdemeanor count. That came after a police fingerprint analyst said she could not say beyond a reasonable doubt that fingerprints lifted from the tape holding the sign were the professors.

The acquittal marks the second time this year Wonch Hill has been cleared in cases in which she was accused of political vandalism.

She was also accused of attaching googly-eye stickers to a campaign sign for Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, but the city dropped that count in September.

Wonch Hill said she believes she’s been targeted by Republican lawmakers because she is politically active and a frequent critic of the GOP.
