NWU MEN’S BASKETBALL: Garver Receives Player/Athlete Of The Week Honor
Nebraska Wesleyan senior men’s basketball player Ryan Garver was named the American Rivers Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 2-6. In addition, Garver was also selected the conference men’s athlete of the week.
Garver (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Northeast HS) had a huge week for the No. 1 ranked Prairie Wolves leading them to a pair of conference victories. In two wins, he averaged 24 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals. He shot 68 percent from the field. 66 percent from 3-point range and went a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line.
On January 2nd at Buena Vista, Garver was 9-10 from the field to score 23 points with eight rebounds and six steals. He was 3-3 on 3-point attempts to lead the Prairie Wolves in scoring.
Saturday against 20th-ranked Loras, Garver played all 40 minutes scoring a season-high 25 points to go along with seven assists and six rebounds.
He has now scored over 20 points in four straight games. He leads the American Rivers Conference in assists averaging 7.1 per game and is also tops in the league in steals at 2.9 per game. His season field goal percentage of 67.8 percent ranks 2nd in the conference. Last season’s conference co-MVP, ranks 10th in the American Rivers in scoring and 6th in rebounding to appear in the top ten of the league in all four major statistical categories.
Garver ranks in the top ten of all of NCAA III in total assists (3rd, 92) and steals (9th, 38). His shooting percentage of 67.8 ranks 10th in the nation.
Nebraska Wesleyan, the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA III, extended their nation’s leading winning streak to 26 games last week and now sit 13-0 on the season. The Prairie Wolves travel to Indianola, Iowa this Wednesday (Jan. 9) to face Simpson College. Simpson was the last team to defeat NWU in men’s basketball, when the two teams played last met January 27, 2018 in Indianola with Simpson winning 102-97 in overtime.
The Prairie Wolves next home game in Saturday (Jan. 12) at 4 pm versus Wartburg College.
