Lincoln, NE (March 16, 2021)  PETA, or People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals, has long campaigned against the consumption of meat and the use of animals in the making of consumer products.  They hope to influence Interstate 76 travelers to think unfavorably about Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts next week.

Ricketts has declared March 20th as “Meat On The Table Day” in Nebraska.  The event encourages everyone to buy and consume meat at least once that day.  It was declared in retaliation after the Governor of Colorado declared that day a meatless day in his State.

Today, PETA announced it would  commission a billboard on the Colorado side of the border with Nebraska warning, “Entering Nebraska, Home of Meathead Governor Ricketts!”.

A statement from the group said they are “calling out a governor who is so afraid of the vegan future that he created a whole day to celebrate his meat-industry campaign contributors for killing animals, operating filthy slaughterhouses in which workers have been exposed to COVID-19, polluting waterways with factory-farm effluent, and turning a blind eye to meat-related maladies such as heart attacks, cancer, and diabetes.

Numerous food and agriculture interests have rallied together to offer support and promote Gov. Pete Ricketts’ proclamation.
