LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 2)–Bryan Health is expanding its SANE program. That stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. program to serve more patients affected by sexual assault. Bryan Health now has a team of more than 30 registered nurses who serve as sexual assault nurse examiners. These registered nurses have completed specialized training in the medical forensic care of a patient who has experienced sexual assault or abuse. In a typical month, nurses perform as many as 15 sexual assault nurse examinations. However, in June, Bryan Health did 29 examinations and 21 more in July. August and September are busiest because school starts.
