Nebraska U.S. Republican Sen. Ben Sasse had some harsh words for both sides of the political spectrum after he read the whistleblower complaint that sparked a Democratic-led impeachment inquiry into President Trump.  Sasse, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is one of the lawmakers who has seen the intelligence community whistleblower complaint that has yet to be released publicly.  Lamenting that Congress is “terrible at deliberation,” Sasse warned that all sides should “slow down” and that there would be “lots of deliberations” on the complaint’s contents.

“Democrats ought not to be using the word impeach before they have the whistleblower complaint or before they read any of the transcript,” Sasse said, adding that “Republicans ought not to be rushing to circle the wagons” to say there is nothing there “when there’s obviously lots that’s very troubling there.”

Sasse, 47, also said the Trump administration “ought not be attacking the whistleblower as some talking points suggest they plan to do.”

He also urged news outlets not to expect answers so quickly.

“The media humbly should not pretend that this story is about something that’s going to be resolved in the next two hours,” Sasse said. “Done right with lots of deliberation this is going to take a lot of time, but there’s obviously some really troubling things here.”

“But I think the partisan tribalism that is always insta-certain is a terrible idea,” he added.
