LINCOLN–(KFOR July 29)– Police say an inmate found dead at his work-release job at a Lincoln hotel had been using drugs.

Chief Jeff Bliemeister says 49-year-old Craig Haynes was found in the basement of the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in the Haymarket with another worker Saturday. The other worker was given an antidote and is expected to survive.

Haynes had been doing maintenance work. He was an inmate at the Community Correctional Center-Lincoln, serving a 10- to 12-year sentence for convictions that included operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, sexual assault and making terroristic threats.

He had a tentative release date of November 2020.

Another overdose happened on Friday, where 21-year-old Leah Johnson was taken to the hospital after being found Friday in a room at the Luxury Inn near the Lincoln Airport.  Chief Bliemeister says Johnson had passed away on Sunday.

The chief says they are investigating whether there is a connection between these two incidents.
