Veterans Walk of Recognition Honors Those Who Have Served the U.S. Military

LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 11)–One of the long-standing traditions in honoring those who served us during peace and wartime is the annual Veterans Walk of Recognition, which marked its 26th year, when the walk started at 9:30am Monday outside Memorial Stadium.

Vietnam veteran Gaylen Young of Lincoln has coordinated the walk and tells KFOR News Veterans Day is a day to remember veterans. Regardless of weather or temperature, since 1998, the Veterans walk has made the trek from Memorial Stadium to the Veteran’s Memorial Garden at Antelope Park.

“We’re proud to have done our jobs and just want people to see who our veterans are,” Young said.

At the time the walk started, it was overcast and breezy with a temperature of 46 degrees. In years past, the Veterans Walk of Recognition has happened when it’s rained, snowed, when temperatures have been bitterly cold or increasingly mild for Nov. 11.

A Veterans Day observance was also held late Monday morning inside Auld Pavilion.
