Two Killed in Fiery Crash Early Thursday In South Lincoln

LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 5)–Lincoln Police say two people are dead, after a vehicle they were in went off the road and hit a tree in a neighborhood just south of 27th and South Streets early Thursday morning.

Officer Erin Spilker says security video obtained from a nearby home showed a speeding car was southbound on 27th when it apparently went out of control and crashed into a tree on the eastside of the street between Sewell Street and Park Avnue, bursting into flames.

Officers tried to rescue the people inside, but couldn’t get them out, while trying to use extinguishers to put the flames out.

“The engine block had completely separated from the vehicle,” Spilker said about the extent of the damage that prevented officers to contain the fire and rescue the occupants.

By the time LFR showed up to put the fire out, the two people were pronounced dead at the scene. No names have been released, pending notification of relatives.
