An Omaha Attorney will get an up or down vote on becoming Nebraska’s next Federal Judge. Brian Buescher was nominated by President Trump for a judgeship in Omaha, but has faced stiff opposition from Senate Democrats.

Senator Ben Sasse, who’s sponsored Buescher’s nomination, stated “this has been a long process and we have had to fight everything from political smears to outright anti-catholic bigotry. But we’re almost to the finish line.” Sasse said an up or down vote will likely be taken before the senate’s august recess.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell signed off on cloture for the nomination Thursday, indicating confidence that the nomination will be approved by the full senate. Senator Sasse added “frankly, he [Buescher] ought to pass 100 to 0 because he is more than qualified for this job.”

Mr. Buescher is a Nebraska native and currently leads the agriculture litigation team for Kutak Rock LLP, where he works in the firm’s Omaha office.
