The meetings are held at the Aldersgate UMC, 84th and South Streets here in Lincoln. There is ample parking, no steps, and a nice meeting room. The presentation begins at 1:30pmCT. There is always time allowed for discussion and sharing after the presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend. The meetings are free and you do NOT need to register.

The presentation for February 27th is entitled Dear Judy-A Love Story Rewritten By Alzheimer’s. The presentation will be given by Michael James, artist and emeritus UNL professor. He is a talented visual artist as well as writer. His textile art is included in numerous public and private collections. But as cases of dementia are proliferating it is more important to caregivers that we learn how to deal with the challenges of caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another dementia so having lived it he will give some background on and read from his recently published memoir DEAR JUDY. He’ll reflect on the journey he and his late wife shared after her younger onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis. He’ll also tell a bit about his journey since her death, and on how caregivers can support one another through the challenges of that endeavor. He currently helps to sustain connections among a close-knit group of husband caregivers of dementia sufferers. I have read DEAR JUDY and you won’t want to miss this.

There will be time for discussion and for you to ask questions after the presentation. The presentation and the folder of resources we share will provide invaluable information, not only for family caregivers but also for family members, pastors/church members, friends and neighbors as well as professional care providers.

We will be distributing a copy of the calendar the Caregiver Education Group put together to those who were not able to attend previous meetings.
