LPD Officer Shot While Serving Warrant, Two Suspects Are In Custody

UPDATE:  4:30 PM

Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said Wednesday afternoon that the Police officer shot while serving a warrant was a 23 year veteran of the Department.  He was struck in the chest by a bullet, taken to a hospital, and was in critical condition after surgery.  The shot came as officers were trying to contact those inside the house, according to Bliemeister.

Two men tried to flee by jumping out windows.  Vazquez was arrested outside of a home in the 300 block of North 33rd, about six blocks away from the scene of the shooting.  The handgun was recovered, according to the chief.

A second suspect, 19 year old Orion Ross, was arrested just across the street from the home on the playground of Hartley School.  No students were outside at the time, Bliemeister said, because part of the planning for the arrest included placing the school in lockdown in advance.

The name of the Police Officer who was shot has not been released as of this report.
