Creighton’s Scheierman Named to NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Team

DETROIT–(KFOR/CU Athletics Mar. 31)–Creighton men’s basketball guard Baylor Scheierman was named to the All-Midwest Regional Team of the NCAA Tournament after play concluded on Sunday in Detroit.

Scheierman led Creighton with 25 points on Friday night against Tennessee, adding six rebounds and two assists. In three NCAA Tournament games this month Scheierman averaged 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. The Bluejays finished their season with a loss to Tennessee Friday night in the NCAA Sweet 16.

It was CU’s third Sweet 16 trip in the past four seasons, something only Gonzaga, Houston, Alabama and UCLA can also claim.

It’s the second straight season that Scheierman has been recognized on an All-Regional Team, having joined Ryan Kalkbrenner on the All-South Regional Team a year ago.

Purdue’s Zach Edey was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Regional, and joined on the All-Midwest Regional Team by teammate Braden Smith and Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler and Dalton Knecht. Purdue won the Midwest Regional with a 72-66 victory over Tennessee to clinch the Boilermakers first trip to the Final Four since 1980, as National Player of the Year Edey had 16 rebounds and a career-high 40 points.
