The presentations for September 24th will give information about Aging & Disability Resource Center Nebraska (ADRC 101) given by Ben Stromberg, Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services and Nebraska SHIP/SMP – local help for Nebraskans with Medicare given by Eric Hansen, Nebraska Department of Insurance.

Ben is going to share about the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) . It was established by the Nebraska legislature in 2015 as a pilot project and was made permanent by the legislature in 2018. The purpose is to provide information about long-term care services and supports available in the home and community for Nebraskans 60 years or older, people with disabilities of all ages, family members, caregivers, and persons who request information or assistance on behalf of others.. Local ADRCs provide information, referrals, and assistance tp access the most appropriate public and private resources to meet their long-term care needs.

Eric is going to share about Nebraska SHIP/SMP which is a division of the Nebraska Department of Insurance. SHIP is a federally funded program with 7 locations across Nebraska. They provide local, free, confidential and unbiased Medicare education and counseling to help Nebraskans make informed decisions about their Medicare health insurance options and serves as the State of Nebraska’s SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) providing education to prevent Medicare fraud and abuse and serving as a location to report suspected activities.

Both of these programs are beneficial and having these presentations will provide the essential information to utilize them. As always there will be time for further discussion after the presentations. Plus the folder of resources we share will provide invaluable information, not only for family caregivers but also for family members, pastors/church members, friends and neighbors as well as professional care providers.

As I shared I am bringing copies of the Caregiver Organizer to the meeting. Because of a generous donation I am able to provide a free copy to active caregivers. The Organizer is a valuable tool for anyone living alone. There is a suggested donation of $12 which will print another copy. If you write a check to make a donation make it payable to the Lincoln Community Foundation with Caregiver Organizer in the memo line. The Foundation is our repository for funds. All donations go directly into the account. I am a volunteer and receive no compensation or reimbursement.
