LEGION BASEBALL: Carpetland's Season Ends as National Runner-Up at ALWS

SHELBY, NC–(KFOR Aug. 15)–A terrific ride through the spring high school and summer Legion baseball seasons came to an end in defeat for Carpetland of Lincoln East on Tuesday night.

The Rugs came up short in their first ever bid in the American Legion World Series by falling to League City, Texas 1-0 in the championship game in Shelby, North Carolina. For East and Carpetland, they finish as NSAA Class A State Champions, Class A State Legion Baseball titleholders and champs of the American Legion Central Regional with a combined 84-16 record.

Carpetland ace pitcher Carter Mick took the loss. He walked leadoff hitter Kyeler Thompson and committed an error by misfiring on a throw to first on a pick off move. Thompson advanced to third and soon scored on a ground out from Chase Bourgeois for the only run of the game.

Mick managed to settle down after that, allowing four hits and striking out five batters.

Defensively, League City managed to be all over the field in preventing Carpetland to capitalize, including a diving catch that robbed hit from Garrett Springer in the sixth inning and a potential home run off his bat that went left of the foul pole.

Carpetland was the first Nebraska team to reach the ALWS championship since Five Points Bank of Creighton Prep in 2017.

Nebraska’s lone national title at the ALWS came in 1939, with Creighton Prep winning the crown.
