Lincoln Fire & Rescue is adding a second battalion.   Fire Chief Micheal DeSpain has promoted three new Battalion Chiefs to serve the new unit.  Helments were presented Thursday afternoon to Lloyd Mueller, Robert Watton, and Michael Smith.  Their addition means that there will now be two Battalion Chiefs on duty every day.
DeSpain said the added supervisory capability benefits the community by dividing the city in to two districts for response which promotes a safer environment for firefighters responding on calls and helps increase accountability and training opportunities for the fire force.  He said the change will be particularly important during times of multiple major calls, a situation he says is happening more frequently because of the growth of Lincoln.
The Helmet Presentation Ceremony took place Thursday afternoon at the new Fire Station 15 at 6601 Pine Lake Road.
