Nebraska Farm Bureau To Release Second Round of Flood Aid

The Nebraska Farm Bureau Disaster Relief Fund has opened a second round of distributions.

The Disaster Relief Fund has collected more than $2.5 million, with 100 percent of the funds going to help farmers, ranchers, and rural communities.

“During this second round, we will be asking for more detailed information to help us better evaluate remaining needs and where our fund can help the most,” said Megahn Schafer, executive director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation.

The company has already distributed $1 million in aid, “typically in $1,000 or $2,000 amounts per household, the first round distributions were to cover the hotel rooms, cover some gas, getting water to animals, and bottled water to schools,” explained Schafer.

The second round of aid will be focus on larger expenses. “A lot of what we are seeing is the need of clearing debris from fields, so rentals of large machinery to clear that debris, and fencing is also a need that has emerged,” said Schafer.

Schafer stated they are also looking to help with ongoing veterinary bills. “We’ve got a lot of cows that are just not very healthy, and haven’t been healthy for a long time due to the conditions they were born into.”

Applications are welcome and encouraged from new and repeat applicants and can be completed online at www.nefb.org/disaster. Farm Bureau membership is not required to apply for or receive assistance.
