One Person Dead After Crash In Southeast Lincoln
A crash in southeast Lincoln Thursday morning left one man dead. Rescue crews were called to 91st and Highway 2 just after 9:30am. When they arrived, they found that a westbound SUV on Highway 2 had rear-ended a semi-trailer. It’s unclear if the semi was stopped at a red light or was moving at the time.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced the sole occupant of the Explorer deceased at the scene. He was identified as seventy-nine year old Thomas F. Funke of Nebraska City. The investigation determined that seat belts were in use and there was no indication that alcohol was a factor.
The sole occupant of the semi was uninjured.
The stretch of Highway 2 from Yankee Hill to 91st was closed until shortly after 3 pm Thursday while an accident reconstruction team analyzed the crash scene.
