Wesleyan Football Loses 56-21 To Coe College In Lincoln
Nebraska Wesleyan hurt themselves with three turnovers and another special teams blunder allowed the Kohawks a late TD.
Coe scored a touchdown on eight of their nine offensive possessions with their starters in the game. The only stop was an interception by Jacob Garnas late in the 2nd half. The Kohawks didn’t have to punt until the 4th quarter when the reserves came into the game.
The Kohawks opened the game with a 75-yard scoring drive capped by a 2-yard run from Tyler Dralle. NWU tried to answer on their next drive getting inside the 5-yard line, however Jonathan Curti was intercepted in the red zone. Coe took advantage and went 88 yards with Dralle getting a 1-yard TD run.
Curti was intercepted once again on the Prairie Wolves next possession giving the Kohawks prime field position. One play later, Coe found the end zone again on a 37-yard TD strike from White to Joshua Bishop.
NWU finally got on the board in the 2nd quarter when Curti ran in from five yards out to make it 21-7. The Kohawks answered right back with a 29 TD pass on the White to White connection.
Right before halftime the Prairie Wolves converted a big 4th down play into a touchdown when Curti found Coby Ensz streaking down the sideline for a 43-yard TD. Coe got the ball back with only 1:37 before halftime, but that was enough for them to go 75 yards in 10 plays for the White brothers to connect for a 6-yard touchdown.
A fumble on the Prairie Wolves first possession of the second half, gave the Kohawks the ball at their 42-yard line. This set up the third straight White combo score, this time from 26 yards out in the corner of the end zone.
NWU did have their longest drive of the season when they got the ball back going 75 yards in 17 plays that took 8:45. Curti scrambled to find Derrick Curtis open in the end zone from 15 yards out to make it 42-21.
Coe added two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter, getting a 1-yard TD run from Cody Russell then a blocked punt was recovered in the end zone by AJ Christensen to cap the scoring.
The Kohawks ended the game with 574 total yards, with 404 through the air and 170 on the ground.
Nebraska Wesleyan had 366 yards of offense, passing for 302 and rushing for 64 on 31 carries. Curti was 21-30 for 302 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Logan Hughes caught six passes for 47 yards, Curtis caught three passes for 100 yards and Alex Mathis made four catches for 98 yards.
